Today we took the boys to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia. I guess others (a lot of others) had the same idea because the line to buy tickets took us nearly 20 minutes to get through. Thankfully, there was minimal complaining from either Cava or Benjamin.
Once inside, Cava had two animals he wanted to see the most: monkeys and lions.
With the latter, we got to see the king of beasts napping blissfully, despite Cava's loud roaring.
Thankfully, the tiger was more animated.
"WOW!" was Cava's response.
Still, as much as he wanted to see lions and monkeys, he spent more time looking at fish than he did either of those two animals. First it was the Koi.
Then we went inside the aquarium and reptile house (Yeah, none too thrilled about the latter. All I could think about was that scene in Harry Potter where the glass disappears and the boa constrictor gets out).
He got excited by every shark he saw and called every Clown Fish "Nemo."
Surprisingly, Benjamin was in a posing mood.
We had to constrain Cava from climbing the fence to get to the elephants. Like the tiger, they elicited an excited, "WOW!" from him.
He was also delighted by the penguins, particularly the one that splashed around and stopped right in front of him.
Cava enjoyed getting up close with the kangaroos, although he tried to get even closer before we caught him.
Instead the only animals they got up close to were the bronze kind:
Everyone had a great time. Everyone got along, even on the drive to and from the zoo. And for that, I am thankful.
